Constantine 2 (2025): Keanu Reeves Returns With A Dark Journey
After years of waiting, the sequel to Constantine (2005) has been officially confirmed. Keanu Reeves will continue to transform into John Constantine – a cold, thorny exorcist who specializes in confronting supernatural forces. With the direction of director Francis Lawrence, the film promises to bring a new journey full of darkness and drama.
Warner Bros. has greenlit Constantine 2, with Keanu Reeves returning in the lead role and Francis Lawrence continuing to take on the role of director. Akiva Goldsman will write the script and co-produce with J.J. Abrams.
According to Reeves, a story has finally been made into a film and presented to DC Studios, and they have given the green light. “We [along with director Francis Lawrence] have been trying to make this movie for over a decade, and we recently made it into a movie and presented it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay.’ So we’re going to try to write a script,” he explained.
While Reeves kept details under wraps, he did confirm that Constantine 2 will take place in “the same world” as the 2005 original.
“We’re not going that way,” he added. “John Constantine is going to be even more tortured.”
“We’ve finally gotten to a place where we have the permission to go down that path.
“And Akiva is writing the script, and Keanu, Akiva and I have been collaborating.
“And I think we have some really great ideas that we’re really, really excited about.
“And I think we’re getting closer to having a real viable object.
“And I’ve never been more excited about this project, and more excited about the reality of it, in the 20 years since we did the first one. So it’s a real possibility.”
“I just want to reiterate how great it was to work with Francis and Akiva on this,” Keanu added.
“It was a pleasure to be in the same room and talk about Constantine.
“Yeah, everyone was just improvising and, you know what Akiva and Francis came up with, and those ideas.
“I would love to play this guy.”
During the interview, Francis showed off a huge ‘Holy Shotgun’ prop that appeared in the original film.
This exciting news comes after comments from director Francis Lawrence last week, when he expressed that the duo are “closer than ever to making a sequel.” He added that they “have a great idea,” noting that they’ve been sifting through comics for years for inspiration.
“We’ve had this character in our heads for 20 years, just ideas and stories and characters that we love, and ideas that we love,” Lawrence shared.
Constantine is inspired by the DC Comics/Vertigo Comics series Hellblazer, which initially faced resistance from diehard fans but has since achieved iconic status.
The film, which stars Reeves and Rachel Weisz, follows John Constantine, a troubled exorcist with the special ability to travel to hell and witness the true forms of angels and demons.
There’s no official release date yet, but the film is in development and could hit the airwaves in late 2025 or early 2026.
