Netflix is bringing audiences a timeless biblical love story with a fresh perspective as Ruth & Boaz – a romance and faith-based film produced by Tyler Perry – is set to premiere globally on September 26, 2025.
📖 A Familiar Story, in a Fresh Setting
Inspired by the legendary romance between Ruth and Boaz from the Bible, the film reimagines the tale in modern-day America, set in a small town in Tennessee.
Ruth (Serayah McNeill) – a promising singer in Atlanta – turns down a record deal, only to face a tragic and vengeful twist of fate. She decides to leave the city’s bright lights and join Naomi (Phylicia Rashad) – the mother of her late boyfriend – to start over from scratch. The only job Ruth can find is at a local vineyard, where she meets Bo “Boaz” Astra (Tyler Lepley) – a warm-hearted man with a complicated past.
From their very first meeting, Boaz is drawn to Ruth. But just as their relationship begins to blossom, her troubled past returns, forcing them both to confront challenges to their faith, loyalty, and love.
🎥 An Experienced Creative Team
Ruth & Boaz is directed by Alanna Brown, best known for her Netflix film Trees of Peace. The screenplay is written by Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar) and Cory Tynan (Play’d).
The project is a collaboration between Tyler Perry Studios and DeVon Franklin Entertainment, under a multi-year deal to produce faith-based movies for Netflix. Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin serve as producers alongside Angi Bones, Tony Strickland, and Chad Tennies. Music is composed by Kurt Farquhar, with cinematography by Michael Negrin.
